Baptism and Thanksgiving Services
Children: In baptism the parents and godparents make promises to God on behalf of the child, thank God for his gift of life and publicly acknowledge his love. Baptism marks a new start: a decision to follow Christ within the family of the church.
Some parents want to celebrate the arrival of a child with a service in church but without the commitment of baptism. A service of thanksgiving is a meaningful alternative to baptism in which you thank God for the gift of your child and the child is blessed.
Adults: Many people who have a faith in Jesus want to celebrate that faith and make a public commitment to Jesus in much the same way that the early disciples did. Here at St Mark we offer adult baptism services by either pouring water over the adult to be baptised or by full immersion.
As a first step, register your interest with the parish Office and we will answer your initial enquiries and put you in touch with a minister who will meet with you to help you prepare for this important occasion before arranging the service or setting a date. It may be that you decide during this process that a thanksgiving service is more appropriate than a baptism and the minister with be able to talk through the alternatives with you.
We will send you an application form when you are ready to go ahead. Alternatively you can download an application form below.
