TEAM CHANGES

Malcolm Allen, Team Vicar of St Barnabas has been appointed as the new Team Rector of Bishop’s Cleeve. It is anticipated that Malcolm and his family will move in early January ready to start work later that month. While this will be an exciting season for Bishops Cleeve it heralds a time of uncertainty within our own team.

As the third staff member to move on to a fresh challenge within the year it means we are in a season of re-building. St Mark members are asked to pray for the St Barnabas church family and especially for Phil Southam the church warden, for the Core Leadership Team and for Brian and Lyn Horne. Team Curate, Jon Ward will be seconded to the St Barnabas Leadership Team during the vacancy.

The process for appointing clergy to the team includes consultation and involvement of the members. Realistically it is hoped to have a successor in post ready for the autumn term.
As the team is depleted please continue to pray that we will be able to appoint a new team youth minister sooner rather than later.

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

We welcome Captain Michael Webb to our 10.30am Remembrance Service.  Mike’s service has included 5 tours of duty in Afghanistan.  He will be paying a tribute to a fallen fellow serviceman and friend.  Mike and his wife Freya married here in 2006 and look upon St Mark as their home church. Mike is currently home on leave.  Do pray for them and learn how best to support them and other military families.

They shall grow not old
as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.

We will remember them.

CURRY -

MORNING, NOON & NIGHT?!

This may well be what to expect as John and Didi venture forth on their month’s visit to Dornakal, South India in one week’s time.

Following the visit of Christians from our diocesan link with Bangalore two years ago, one of the guests wrote in the visitor’s book, ‘Please come to India!’

Having met Bishop Devamani in the summer and us expressing an interest to go out there, he was immediately bubbling with ideas for teaching and preaching for John, and for Didi to assist his doctor daughter at Bishop Whitehead Hospital.  As well, there will be visits to on-going projects at a centre for mentally and physically disabled children and an orphanage.

Please pray for protection from ‘Delhi bellies’ as well as safe journeys so that with the Lord’s help we will be able to make a useful contribution by word and deed as well as share the love of Jesus with all we meet.  Also, please remember Alastair, that he may have peace of mind whilst we are away.

CHRISTMAS CHILD

In the current economic situation and with predictions of recession people are cutting back on their spending.  In such times charities and good causes are often among the first to suffer.

Christians have an opportunity to show an approach that is different to the way of the world.  We trust God in uncertain times and look out for the vulnerable.
Over the next few weeks we are highlighting a number of ways in which you can make sure that your preparations for Christmas include creative ways of blessing others.

Led by our young people, we are getting involved again with Operation Christmas Child.  This project organized by relief agency Samaritan’s Purse distributes shoe boxes with gifts for children and includes Good news of Jesus.

You are encouraged to take a guide to making up a box and/or to donate gifts which can go in others’ boxes. These can be left in the brightly coloured containers at the front of church.
