MISSIONS TO ISRAEL
"Global Mission with a Latin Heart"

About SAMS/CMS
The South American Mission Society, which began over 150 years ago, is a mission agency whose purpose is to recruit, send and support missionaries to be witnesses and make disciples for Jesus with the Episcopal/Anglican Church primarily in South America. SAMS has recently merged with another Society, the Church Missionary Society, CMS. SAMS/CMS' missionaries share the Gospel, establish churches, train national church leaders, and minister socially through medical clinics and Christian schools. St Mark supports two SAMS/CMS missionaries: Tim Curtis and Jill Ball.
Tim Curtis - Bible Translation in Paraguay
Tim Curtis
is the son of a former vicar of St Mark, Tom Curtis, and we as a church have been
supporting him since he arrived in the "inhospitable" rural region of Chaco in Paraguay in the
1980s. For over 20 years, Tim has been translating the Bible into a local
tribal language Enxet. His first major project was to oversee the translation
of the New Testament, which was completed and presented to the Enxet church in 1997. In 2003 Tim and
Enxet colleagues Juan, Martín and Asunción began to translate the Old
Testament. This should take 8-10 years which will give the Enxets the written
Word of God in its entirety.
Jill Ball - Serving the Disabled in Ecuador
Jill has been a SAMS
missionary since 2002 when she began work with HIV/AIDS orphans. In 2004 she began
her ministry in Santo Domingo,
in Equador, serving the city's disabled. Respite care, pastoral visits,
workshops, classes for the young, help with equipment such as wheelchairs and
artificial limbs are all part of her work. The centre for the ministry is a
house Jill bought and where she lives. Jill works alongside Ecuadorians,
encouraging them to take ongoing responsibility for the disabled and give a high
priority to their needs.
There is a prayer meeting which meets on the first Wednesday of each month in church to pray for the work of SAMS/CMS. For further details see Pat Edden.
